Atletico Madrid returned from the winter break with a 2-0 win at Las Palmas in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 tie.

Koke put the visitors ahead on 24 minutes and France forward Antoine Griezmann headed in another five minutes into the second half to put Diego Simeone's men on course for the quarter-finals.

Celta Vigo ran out 4-1 winners at Valencia, where there were pre-match demonstrations outside the Estadio Mestalla against owner Peter Lim.

Los Che sit 17th in La Liga and saw coach Cesare Prandelli walk out this week following an apparent row over January transfers.

The hosts found themselves behind inside two minutes when Iago Aspas converted a penalty before Theo Bongonda doubled Celta's lead in the 13th minute and then Daniel Wass drove in a third five minutes later.

Daniel Parejo reduced the deficit with a penalty just before the hour, but John Guidetti slotted in Celta's fourth with 16 minutes left.

At the Estadio Riazor, a stoppage-time goal from Joselu saw Deportivo de La Coruna come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Alaves.

However, Portuguese winger Bruno Gama set up a grandstand finale when he slotted in from a tight angle with 18 minutes left and Joselu, on loan from English side Stoke, nodded in at the back post after a free-kick.

Eibar won 3-0 at La Liga's bottom club Osasuna.

Nano gave the visitors the lead on 28 minutes, before Bebe's strike with 15 minutes left and a late header by Adrian sealed a comfortable first-leg win.
